I will be staying at SGOR soon but am not traveling with my hubby and kids. I obviously will want to call home to them in the United States while I am gone but I have never been out of the country and am unsure how to do that.

Has anyone called overseas from a Sandals resort? Do you have a phone in your room? Do I need an international calling card? Does Sandals just charge me the calls when I check out?

Sorry for all the questions but any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have a cell phone? Check with your phone service and make sure you can can get international calling. I have Cingular and don't pay extra for it. To dial from a Sandals to home, dial 1 and area code that you're calling to and the number. Ours works great.

I checked with my cell carrier (US Cellular) and they said they do not offer an international plan so my cell phone would not work in Jamaica. So, unfortunately that is not an option.

I spoke with Sandals and they said if I put down a credit card then I could make phone calls and pay for them at the end.

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost me to call from Jamaica to Illinois, US?

Any better suggestions than just going through Sandals charges?

Sorry to hear that. You can check on the internet on the calling charges for the destinations. Check out the TTO messageboard. We have a few people talking about this and I can remember them renting a phone and etc. Check it out.
