Has anyone that has traveled to France with Cosmos taken any of the optional excursions? If so would you describe your experience.

If you can help it, try to visit the major attractions on your own. Most of the excursions are overpriced and you hardly have time to do anything.

Optionals

I have taken the tour and I took all the optionals. Yes, it is cheaper to do them on your own but then you may have to wait in terribly long lines (Notre Dame in Paris is outrageous) and you will miss out on fun in the evenings. If you do not take the optionals during the day, definately try to make the evening dinners.. ..you get to know your tour mates better and you go to places that you may not have discovered on your own.

optional excursions

I am just back from Europe and found that yes, some of the optional tours were a rip-off and many complained about them. I suggest that you never go anywhere alone however and the evenings out are usually fun but the meals are small with set menu about which you have no choice and served very quickly, to get you out fast. Unless you speak the local language you could find sightseeing on your own difficult and time consuming.
