Norwegian Dream

Postby Bebsy 45 » Tue Feb 17, 2004 6:31 pm

My family (total of 7) sailed out of N.O. on the Norwegian Dream in December of 03. It was more like the Norwegian Nightmare! It is a very old ship that was supposedly upgraded. The lobby looks like that of an inner city hotel. The midnight buffet consisted of a card table with cheese, crackers and bologna sandwiches. The servers in the dining room were very polite and their serving was exceptional. However, the employees in the casino were very rude. I had given cash to one casino worker for playing chips and she denied that I had - so I had to wait for over an hour while the manager viewed the video tape that showed I had given her cash. This was all over $15 in playing chips. Personally, I would not cruise with Norwegian Line again, nor would any of my family members. I really loved Royal Caribbean Lines. :(

We cruised on the Dream in January 2004 and we all loved it! My children really enjoyed the kid´s program and the rest of the family enjoyed the activities on board and the ports of call. We would definately cruise on the Dream again and we think that the staff on this ship was the friendliest ever! :P

The Dream

Postby Robert » Sun Oct 31, 2004 4:13 pm

We were on the Dream in August 04 on a trip from Dover to the Baltic (2 weeks). . We had a very nice room on the upper floor with a grand view out of a bay window (ceiling to floor). . The ship was fine, and the staff in the dining rooms were excellent.

My wife had need of a special milk, and although we were told by one of the dining staff that it was not available, within an hour after placing a form in the complain box, she had a call from the Senior Restrauant Mnager explaining that the crew member was wrong and they did have that milk on board. He went on futher to say that if she was told it was not available again, just mention his name. We had no further problems on that score.

One time we were not hungry enough for the full lunch they provided, and we asked the waiter to come up with a special sandwich. The restrauant manger came over and took our order. Within a few minutes, he personally delivered the sandwichs, which he said was to be named the "Jeanette" sandwich in honor of my wife.

We are sailing on the Dream from N.O. on Nov 14.

I agree that they could have done a better job with the midnight buffet, but over all I give the ship a 9 out of 10.

I hope you will enjoy your cruise.

Norwegian experience.

Postby Jenny » Tue Nov 02, 2004 5:44 pm

Like quite a lot of people on this site I have found my cruising experiences with Norwegian always to be a disappointment. I have give them the benefit of the doubt on four occassions from things like bad or rude service, missed ports of call to shabby overall presentation. My advice and I am fairly easy to please is STAY AWAY!

Norwegian Dream

Postby Natalie » Wed Nov 03, 2004 7:07 pm

I just returned from my cruise out of N.O. so the experience is fresh in my mind.

My main complaint is that the food is good at best. Our first night we ate at the Italian Rest. I had the shrimp risotto which had no flavor at all, my husband had the veal shank which was tender and good. I think this menu only changed once or twice during our cruise. I overheard the waiter say that the pizzas are very good but take 20mins to cook.

The Dream also offers two other restaurants for you to choose from, but they use the same menu, so it's just a question of where on the boat you want to sit. I chose the Four Seasons because you did not feel the vibration of the ships motor as you do in the Terraces or the Italian Rest.

The buffet is a joke. The only reason to eat there is 1) you don't have to change or 2) you missed the time slot for the restaurant

They also offer a French Rest. La Bistro which I heard was very good, but there is a charge per person.

Not all the food was bad. I thought the dinner on formal night was excellent and on one other night I had the Sea Bass which was very good.

Oh, their version of Baked Alaska is a slice of Neapolitan ice cream. No ball of fire, no presentation.

The service was good but since they don't have to earn your tip, it wasn't great.

Our stop at Cancun was cancelled due to rough water. This was disappointing
but understandable. When it was announced that we were to miss this port, more than a few guest were yelling out for free drinks (which didn't happen) we did however receive free wine with our dinner that evening. A sorry attempt considering the amount of money they made from the sale of drinks and gambling losses during the hours we would have been at port. Guest were saying that other cruise liners offered free drinks during the hours they would have been at port, but not the Norwegian. They did play a few more games at the pool to group of very reluctant customers. Oh and as the prize, you received a beach ball. What a joke.

The ship was clean and in good shape and for the most part the staff was very polite. Everyting about this was just okay. Cruising is a very relaxing way of traveling and I will do it again, but not with Norwegian.

The DREAM?

Postby eaf » Thu Nov 04, 2004 10:58 am

:? Ditto on the DREAM cruise last week. HORRIBLE COFFEE.. ..GREAT TEA! I really enjoyed the shows I saw. It would have been nice to have had something to take the place of the missed CANCUN trip other than Shrek2. The people were great, and the food marginal. The Baked ALaska was a real joke. It was our first cruise and we will go again. We enjoyed our experience overall, and our travel agent prepared us for most of our "disappointments". . Just be prepared.. ..the cost of the drinks and bingo can set you back plenty!

Don't Do It!!!

Postby trlcky » Sun Nov 07, 2004 10:08 am

Even if it's to late to get your money back do not go!!! I just got back from a "cruise" yesterday and it was on my top 10 worst experiences. Norwegian Cruise Lines is a poorly run company that doesn't give a shit about it's customers. I am so pissed!!

NCL Dream

Postby Johnny » Wed Dec 01, 2004 12:21 am

Just got back from the Thanksgiving cruise on the Ncl Dream and it was great. Had heard alot of bad things about open seating, but the people that wrote it must have been nuts. We (6 of us) never had to wait for a table and the food and service could not have been better. Never a rude monent from anyone, any friendler and they would be at the house now. This is my 8 th cruise and I thought the ship was small and not as elegant as some of the newer ones, but it was very clean and the food was great. They didn't have the mignight buffets but there was a choculate night with every kind of cake, fruit, and candy that you could think of and eat. there must have been half of the dining room full of great things. The only thing I would recomend is that Rotan and Belize has great snorkling, do not go inland. The tubing in the rainforest and ruins was a let down 3 hours to get there for 45 minutes in ice water on innertubes (62 degrees) The Cave diving was about the same with just 15 minutes in the caves diving. Went diving in Beleze the last time and it was one of the best dives I have ever made. The water and fish were beautiful.
I would rate the ship, staff, and food with an A+. . Tours that I went on a C.

I love the posts like "Tricky" wrote saying stuff like they dont CARe this is a horrble company and yet tons & tons of people continue to book cruises and fill the ships up. Of course we are to believe that what people like Tricky write is True and EVERYONE else is just Wrong.. ..yeah right! Let's see thousands if not millions of people are booking their 3rd-4th-5th cruises (or even their 20th) with NCL every day, because "They are a poorly run company that doesn't give a shit about it's customers" I dont think so.. .. ..more like "Tricky is a Loser a very Un-Happy soul"

Loved every minute of it. The staff was unbelievable. Not one rude person aboard. The shows and entertainment were tops, the fooood was awesome, nooo cheeese and crackers on my cruise. I don't know what that other person was talking about. The ship was spotless, every minute of the day and night. All appeared very new, in fact it appeared to be a new ship. Activities were for all and were great, including children.

I say gooooo and have a great time, if you don't have a great time, its because YOU chooose not to.

just o.k.

Postby patrob » Mon Apr 04, 2005 5:33 pm

I just returned from my cruise on the ncl dream on mar. 27,2005. Overall the experience was just o.k. This is not my first cruise. I have cruised before with royal carribean. I did not like freestyle. same types of food served throughout the week. Poolside pizzeria was closed everyday at 5:30p.m. Buffet area shut down at 9:00 p.m. Resteraunts closed by 9:30 and 10:00. That left only room service. In buffet area and pizzeria area you was one of the lucky ones if you could find a place to sit down and eat.The staff was very friendly and courteous!!!!!!!Our room was sometimes not cleaned before 4:00 in the afternoon. I would not travel with ncl again, go back to royal carribean(Rhapsody of the Seas)

Dream and I mean a dream

Postby grammyof14 » Wed Jul 13, 2005 8:51 pm

:D Same people complaining all the time, they wouldn't be satisfied if someone gave them the cruise, paid for.

Sailed Dream in May, good food, excellent service and personable and pleasant staff, from the Master down to the stewards.

So nice, we booked the Jewel in January and wished our staff on the Dream was there.
