Are there items that we Americans take for granted, such as AA-size batteries or memory cards that are simply not available as standard in other regions of the world?

My wife & I will be first time travelers to the UK later this summer and are thinking about which accessories for camera, etc we can find when we get there. I just don't want to make any assumptions about what is-or-isn't available.
