You are right.. .. ..my mom who is in her early 70's was doing some Trafalgar tours, and although she loved them and has been happy with them, these tours are rigourous in terms of early rising, etc. However, some of the tours, that have optional afternoons free, and/or evenings free, or selected meals on your own, might be the best, as this gives them time to catch their breath and rest up. They can also eat in the hotel for the meals that they are on their own.
The other option of course, is cruising, which gives them total freedom to do as little or as much as they want.. .. .. ..and it's always easy to return back to your 'hotel room' on board whenever you please. There's lots of cruising to so many destinations now, that they don't seem that restrictive in terms of vacationing and seeing the sights. Of course, you would pay extra for any excursions off the ship.
