Help for a first timer! One more time about Dress Code/Formal

Dress code aboard Mercury / Celebrity.for Alaska trip..One more time, is the formal nights super dressy, will I be out of place with a wedding guest type dress or is it all cocktail dresses and ballgowns.. .. . I am a first timer,so until i see what everyone else is wearing or have an Idea.. .. . I am afraid of overpacking.. . I would like to take a basic black dress and wear different
jackets ( some with glitter ). .. .. .
and then what about the less formal nights, but not the casual, is a jacket and tie still required for men, and will a nice sweater set and skirt / pants be okay for that.. .. .??
Thanks in advance, I need help.. .. . I don't want bulging suitcases . .. .. .

I've been on 6 Celebrity cruise and I always brig black seperates with a couple sparkly tops for formal night. You'll see everything from ball gowns to more casual outfits. What you are thiking of bringing will be perfect. The Alaska cruise was a little less dressy than the others.

Like Judy said, you will be fine wearing the items that you mentioned and wou will see it all. For the most part though people tend to dress up more on Celebrity than other major cruise lines.
