buses on Globus tours

Postby donna907 » Fri Apr 14, 2006 11:13 pm

Well we leave in just under three weeks and my husband asked me if I knew what kind of buses we will be on for this trip. He said he would not be a happy camper if we are on a twelve person van like we had in Mexico. Can anyone tell me do they use regular tour buses?? And if so why such a restriction on the carry on piece we are allowed. We werent given the tote we were told we would get, told we would lhave to pay $60 each for it if we wanted the free tote. That isnt free to me.
So we are trying to figure out what to take for the size we can have. we have one down to about 15x15x6,will that work for on the bus. Thanks for any info I get. Thank you Donna

The Globus buses are nice and comfortable, we took one last year on a 3-week panoramic tour of Europe (Traditional Grand European). . They usually fit around 45-48 people (I think), hence there's more room than the traditional coach you see in the US.

Since they expect the bus to be full, and since there isn't too much overhead compartment space, they require that your hand-carry luggage be a certain size. A typical knapsack (which I used) sufficed, but those pullman luggages with wheels that are used as carry-on luggage would be too big.

Thank you for your response. We have small back backs like kids use in schools here, hope that will okay. We are doing the same tour you did the Tradional european tour we leave May 9 on the tour. Know it will be fun. Do they do a long cruise on the Rhine when they go by Germany or is it a short boat ride like an hour. Thanks. Donna

The school backpacks would definitely suffice as carryon luggage. The totes from Globus were too small (I think), so I used a knapsack instead. However, those totes certainly weren't worth $60, but we were give one last year (I'm surprised they're charging for those now). .

Our cruise on the Rhine was about an hour, but it was very nice. Hope you get Laura as your tour director, she's very good. Have a great trip.

Thanks for the come back again. We should do okay then with what we have for carry on then. Thanks for the info on the cruise part, wondered if it was all day or what, now we know. We are doing the Mt Pilatus tour for sure and thinking of booking our own gondola ride so we can do it by ourselves. more romantic this way. this is our 39th wedding anniversary present to our selves and looks like it will be great. Thanks again Donna

Hi donna907,
We got our totes free in Canada I believed, -no one charged us for them.
These totes are deceptively small but pack in a lot of stuff; and the Globus logo identifies us as a group.
School backpacks are useful in the planes and buses; but security people at churches and museums do not allow visitors to carry them into the premises - so it wates time to deposit them at security office/baggage counter and some charge fees for temporary storage.
:-)
