Sandals Regency St Lucia.. ..Is it as bad as the reviews?

Postby jazzywest » Mon Feb 13, 2006 7:13 pm

We booked Sandals St Lucia for our honeymoon. We leave April 23 for 8 nights. We opted for the Honeymoon 1 BR suite (no butler or room service, but concierge service). . Now last night we came across a review board, where the coments and reviews were tearing the place apart. From the smell and uncleanliness, to crappy food and no beaches.. ..not to mention some construction and renovations going on as well.Reviews however did say that the upper section (bluffs), was clean and recently renovated. I called Sandals this morning and was assured that our room location is away from the construction.
So whats the deal? Has anyone been there recently? And if so, any perticular room I should ask for? Are bluffs ok? did I make a mistake booking my Honeymoon here? Some help.. .. .. .. .. ..PLEASE

They have wonderful food, people come over from the other two more often than the reverse for dining. The lunches and dinners at Armandos are good, and La Toc is nice. Kimonos is fun but not as good as a local Benihana. We like Marios at Halcyon, and the grill at Halcyon is great.

The beach at Regency doesn't have shade, people mostly hang in the pools there and go to the ocean for a dip.

You definitely should be away from the construction.

My brother and sister in-law were there for their honeymoon back in September. When we booked our vacation this year, I had casually mentioned we might do St. Lucia (we usually do Jamaica) and I was treated to a 45 minute tirade about how bad the place is.. .. . Neither of them are terribly picky either.

I do not think my sister-in-law was dissatisfied so much with the people at the sandals in St. Lucia, rather the resort itself. She said their room which was changed twice was abyssmal, and the resort itself was filthy.

By April though, the construction may be completed, so you might be better off.

:D
Thanks for the replies.. ..I did cancel my Honeymoon, and rescheduled. Perhaps the resort is not as bad as the reviews, but if i did go, and it was as bad, I would be so up set.. ..So looks like we are going to Nevis/ST Kitts. 2 nights at the four seasons and 6 night at the Marriott spa and casino. Sure it will cost a little more $$$, but the Marriott is all inclusive and now the Four Seasons will not disapoint. Again, thnaks for the replies, it is nice to see people taking time out of their day to oofer some advice and help

Wise choice
We hated the place we had booked the finest suite, butler service..the lot.. .. .. ..we got a down grade (overbooked?!?) a butler that only responded to tips (odd as no tipping allowed) I wont go on as I really could! Our honeymoon was ruined

We stayed in the suite you cancelled at Regency, and it was quite special.

No doubt, you will have a good trip to Nevis. I'd love to hear about it. I would not have split the trip.

lourhys,
I would be very upset if I got downgraded after paying for a certain level at any resort.

However, I beleive you are wrong about not tipping butlers. I believe, Sandals does allow tipping of butlers. I am sure the butlers expect to be tipped.
