Optional tours in Salzburg

Postby paris27 » Fri Jan 20, 2006 12:04 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a "Sound of Music" tour offered as an option in Salzburg? We're planning on going on the Munich, Salzburg and Vienna tour. We have the afternoon free, so could book one locally, but was just wondering if Globus offered one.

thanks! :D

We were there last fall on the Imperial Splendors tour. Salzburg was only a one night stop so there wasn't a bunch of time. My friend and I had heard about the local Sound of Music tours (from the Rick Steves show)and had planned to do one. However it turned out that the timing wasn't right to fit it in.

We decided to add the Globus optional to the Eagles Nest - Hiltler's bunker. As it turned out, between that optional and the things that were included on our tour, we saw a lot of Sound of Music stuff.

On the way to Salzburg, we stopped at the church where Maria & the Captain were married. During the city tour, we saw the park that figured in the show. During the Eagle's Nest tour, they pointed out the convent and a wall where the Captain tore down a flag.

We did not see the gazebo from the movie (That was on the SOM tour that Rick Steves mentioned.)

Anyway, all in all, we did see a lot of Sound of Music stuff.

I could check my notes if you want to know more details.

Thanks Debbie! This particular itinerary has the whole afternoon free (after included morning sightseeing). .. ..so I'm hoping to either book one through Globus or another company. I've seen that one that Rick Steves mentions as well.

Do you have the Rick Steves book too? I mentions two specific SOM tours. We had thought about taking one of those until we realized that our tour didn't leave enough time.

There is a spot where you can find Globus optionals. Let me check on it again.

Sound of Music cast and crew

Postby General Max » Mon Jan 23, 2006 10:45 am

When we were in Salzburg in March 2002, we attended an optional at the castle where the cast and crew of the Sound of Music stayed during filming. The optional was a piano recittal with champagne included.

Cheers

Actually I saw it on his website. We'll explore all options, and may just end up booking one that's not offered by Globus. It all depends on what they visit.

thanks for the info!
