I would like to travel to Italy with Perillo in early 06. I am a single woman. What do they offer for single travelers? Will they arrange room mates? What's the single suppliment?

I traveled with Perillo as a single person last year and felt much safer with a group. I traveled alone by train from Rome to Pompeii, and a group tried to steal my purse so I would not recommend traveling alone. I was okay, but it does show the risks.

I forgot to mention that they will pair you with another single traveler if one is available so you can save money.

the hated singles supplement!! unfortunately it's just the way things work. The reason is mostly due to how hotel rates for rooms work. if you ll notice in booking most hotel rooms on your own, the 1st person pays MOST of the room charge then they ask "other adults" they pay a supplement for being in the room. so when one person uses a room nobody pays the rest. one room is still used one bath one tv and so on. Many hotels dont have enough single rooms and they are taken up by walk-ins first. so you have to pay for that phantom person who should be in your room. I tour alone quite often so i get hit with it a lot. i can be put up in a single broom closet or as happened once a triple suite  but usually i just get a plain old double. i wish it was possible for tour companies to know in advance if you were going to get a singles broom closet so they could charge for it. i guess its too complex for them to figure up a rebate after depending on how your rooms turned out for the tour (as long as you arent charged extra for that triple suite!! ) anyway many companies offer a single match plan. think about. personally i have friends i wouldnt want to have to be with 24 hrs a day for 14 days. is it worth the money to you to have your own facilities at the end of a tour day? if you meet up with a single fellow traveler you like, you can always share excursions, bus seating meals and wander around town together. happy and many travels. mimi
