Sandals SDR or SOR?

Sandals SDR or SOR?

Postby mmdm1481 » Thu Dec 22, 2005 5:49 pm

Anybody been to the Dunns River resort since the renovation? I have been to the Ocho Rios resort and liked it but if anybody has any comments on the "new" Dunns River they would be greatly appreciated!

They only reopened on 12/19. I was there last week before they opened and have a lot of pics and also wrote live comments from Jamaica on tropictravelonline. I've been sick since getting home a couple of days ago and don't have the pics posted.

The redone rooms are beautiful. The butler suites are great, and so are the lower level rooms. I'd avoid 3318 if booking butler, as it overlooks RIU beach. The two hotels are THISCLOSE, but most of RIU is just jammed up to the driveway by the pitch and putt.

Not everything is done. They don't have the Rialto finished but should within a few days. They put in a pizza oven out in the piazza (where they always played the Newleywed game). . The Italian has new columns and buffet lines. They will serve pastries and have Italian themed entertainment.

They also have a pretty new porte cache.

The nightly entertainment will be outside most of the time, but the Forum will still be used on occasion and during inclement weather.

The restaurants except Kimonos have all been renamed but will be similar to before.

The spa has been converted to Red Lane. We were at Royal Plantation that week, and it had been converted. Some of the spa treatments repeaters might be used to have been renamed, and spa treatments will now feature more local and natural ingredients.

I don't mean the pizza oven will serve pastries and have the entertainment that is Italian themed. I meant the resort.

They also have a redone gift shop and a new photoshop and have a new guest services area that looks very nice. The now enclosed tree bar was done very well. I like it.

They've done some nice things at SGOR, too. The pier area where they have joined the Manor side beach (formerly Grande Sport) and the Riviera beach is great. It has all sorts of covered areas with swings, tables, etc. They tied it together nicely.

Yes, we stayed at SDR twice before and enjoyed it but never thought it was that romantic due to the layout. This flows well. They obviously listened to what people have been saying over the years were flaws. I was very impressed, and the stuff they plan to do sounds neat. They are supposed to even give bellinis when you check in.
