Italian mosaic tour, hotel in Venice (Mestre)

Italian mosaic tour, hotel in Venice (Mestre)

WE are going to Italy and have read some posts that tell you to stay away from Mestre in Venice. Brendan goes there to stay. I have never been to Italy and kind of like the Brendan Tour. We had a 2 hour meeting with the rep from Brendan and was impressed. We talked to her about the Mestre stay, and she said that it wasn't that big a deal because they will get us out of there to see all of the sights.

I don't want to make a mistake because other people are going with us.
I hope I can get some real input from you guys.

Thanks in advance

Eyedoc,

I will be leaving Saturday for this tour. I will write about it once I return. What I have read about this hotel, it is nice and is in an industrialized area but the train is within walking distance. Once you learn how to take the train into Venice I don't think it would matter too much where you stay.

I just got back from a Globus tour and we stayed iin Mestre for two days at the Novotel. The hotel seemed fairly new and was nice, and the town was not bad at all. Although we were by an expressway, I was able to find the town center which was only a few blocks away. Here they had some shopping and coffee shops. also there is a park nearby with people iking and walking. Also I found a grocery store similar to one of our warehouse stores, and I bought some diet coke, snacks and water for the remainder of the trip.

Also we did not spend a lot of time there. Globus which is siimlar to Brendan took us early into Venice and on the previous night we went on the Venice excursion boat cruise and didn't get back until after 10:00p.m.

Although Mestre was not the most beautiful city, it was still quite nice. Just ask your hotel for directions to the town square (if you have time). .
