You will be very tired from the transatlantic flight, so you'll most likely want to take it easy that first day. (You'll definitely want to be well rested for the following morning when you'll be on the road bright and early.) By the time you get to the hotel that first day and settled in, it will be lunch time. I'd suggest a leisurely walk to get lunch and to take in your surroundings. You might want to rest up and also shower before dinner. Of course, if you have energy that first day, you can venture out further-but no one on the tour I was on went farther than a few blocks from the hotel (despite great ambition). . Jet-lag gets to the best of everyone.
