considering sandals dunns river

Postby misjksn » Tue Aug 17, 2004 3:10 pm

We just got back from sandals dunns river on 8-15 and every bad thing you have read is correct. The rooms do smell like mildew, and there was mold growing up the sides of both pools. Not to mention the people are rude. We stayed in a suit and the construction next door started at 6:30am everyday. On the six day of our stay we finally asked to be moved even take a lesser room, and was told we didn't complain enough to be moved. We then decided to move over to the Royal Caribbean, the resort was great and the staff there was wonderful.

I too had been to dunns river on a prior trip that is why I return, but I was very disappointed this time. I love Jamaica and will defiantly go back, but sandal dunns river is highly doubtful

I am sorry to hear that about Dunn's River. I did hear recently about the construction in the suite rooms. Where are they working now? When I was there, it was at the entrance. There was no mildew or mold when we were there and the staff was wonderful. It was about 8 months ago, but I can't believe it changed that much in less than a year. I hope Sandals does something about this because I have been recommending Dunn's River.

When we were at SDR, end of June-beginning of July, Dwaynne was there. He had just returned from being on vacation in NYC. He was a lot of fun! I feel badly when people reoprt they had a bad time at SDR as we had the time of our lives and definitely want to return!

We were there this summer. June 12-18. We loved it. I would go back in a heartbeat!

We were in the honeymoon grand lux rooms, on the other side of the resort, from the construction. The main building is away from it also. The construction noise was the only complaint I heard. I would advise not booking a suite and if they try to upgrade you refuse it.

The resort itself was wonderful, the people were great. Very friendly especally Jash the day bartender at the piano bar. (Yes you can guess where I spent all of my time 8) ). .

I know this is Jamaica we are talking about.. .. . but really, how long can the construction go on? :)

I am booked for a honeymoon penthouse room in 7 weeks. Given the propensity to upgrade Signature Guest members, I have been hoping for the Suite, as it is the only room above the category I booked.

I may rethink that if the construction is on going in November!

those two room categories are in the same building so you're going to be under construction (if it's still there) either way. that's the genoa wing. when we were there last jan. we got the only buildings without construction, as we were originally assigned to a room in the florence wing and complained about its construction. they put us out in the gardens in some beautiful rooms in the rialto wing.

Same here. My wife and I are going to SDR the middle of this month. Anyone gone very recently? We are booked in one of the suites also and don't know if and how they would moves us due to the hurricane, and all the rooms being booked from the transfers from Negril. Kinda concerned. I DO NOT want to have a room with hammers and drills going all day long. Part of the pleasure is afternoon naps and sleeping in. Thoughts? Can really constuction be going on in the suites this long? Come on people on know its Jamaica, but sheesh.

dude, just go to the front desk and tell them about the construction and they'll move you. that's what we did. we were in the florence wing when it was under construction and i was like "uh, no". . and they put us out in the garden rooms. unfortunately, if people are saying they're doing construction over some of the suites, then that means they're doing construction over ALL of the suites, because the suites are all located in the same building.. ..the genoa wing on the west side of the resort.

We will be there for New Years this year. My wife and I went 7 or 8 years ago to SOR and had a blast. I am now a bit concerned, but like most have said on the other bad DR thread, it's too late to do anything about it. I will keep reading until we leave in hopes that things will get better. I just opened a new Sandal's packet and it lloks like SOR and the new Grand OR are the same place, or at least they share the same page in the new brochure. Please keep posting any new info.. .. .. .
