My husband and I are going on the Rome to London Tour 9/3/05. We are going to arrive in Rome a couple of days early and also spend some extra time in Paris and London after the tour ends. I'm a planner by nature, so I'm trying to plan our activities in advance so that we get to see different sights on our own than those we see with the tour, but it is somewhat difficult with the somewhat vague itinerary that Cosmos provides.
I would love to hear from anyone who has been on this tour who could provide some information!!
Specifically, for the visit to the Forum & Colosseum, do you have a tour guide and do you get to go inside? Are entrance fees included in tour price or paid separately? Did you feel that the length of time spent there was sufficient? Regarding St. Peter's and the Vatican - it seems like maybe a tour of St. Peter's is included and then there is an optional tour of the Vatican. What did people think of the optional Vatican tour? (I'm trying to figure out whether we should book a guided tours for both of these sights on our own before we join the tour group.)
In Florence, how much time do you spend there and do you get much free time? My husband and I would like to venture out on our own when we can and maybe see some of the museums (like the Uffizi) instead of staying with the group the whole time - but it is just hard to know when we will be able to do that.
Also, for the visit to Paris, I would be interested to hear thoughts on whether the optional to the Paris cabaret show was worthwhile. And for Versailles, how long was that excursion? Sounds like fun, but I wonder if time would be better spent in Paris seeing other things since there is so much to see?
I have a few more questions - but I will wait to ask those once I get a reply back to the first few. Thanks in advance for your help!
