Sandals Negril- the real lowdown

Sandals Negril- the real lowdown

Postby am_ash2 » Tue Aug 09, 2005 7:44 am

We have our 10th anniversary trip booked to Sandals Negril and are renewing our vows (10/15-10/22) and this is also my 40th BD trip so I'm hoping for a positive experience. We originally booked Whitehouse but after reading so many negative reviews, switched to Negril. We went to Sandals MoBay on our honeymoon 10 years ago and loved the place- even though it was not at all like the video and was a bit run down.

We were in Negril last November, although not at Sandals. Can't give any 1st hand info - but I can say that after hurricane Ivan, Sandals Negril was one of the last of the "big resorts" to re-open.

Some of the talk going around was that Sandals took so long to reopen not only because of damage from Ivan, but also making needed upgrades/improvments. I doub't you'd be dissapointed!

I did hear they upgraded the pool and made other needed changes, but when you read Trip Advisor, you'd think that the place was all beat up or something! That's why I was looking for first hand info.

Let's not forget, that SMB is one of the oldest hotels. They have done a lot of upgrading and rennovations. It got hit pretty hard by Ivan, but mostly foliage damage. But we were there in March and it's beautiful. Home away from Home.

We stayed there in late May. We saw lots of wedding in the new gazebo, and some of the people took great pics on the beach.

If you want to go to Kimono's, book it early. Same w/ Seville at Beaches Negril. We had fun at the water park over there. You can walk to Sandy Bay and get the shuttle or walk the beach all the way or take a cab for $5 per couple.

We had a great trip and felt the resort was very romantic. A few of the rooms are too close to the road (as ours was). . That was my only negative, although check-in was rather disorganized.
