Sandals Jamaica: MoBay or Royal?

Sandals Jamaica: MoBay or Royal?

Postby GailG » Fri Aug 05, 2005 8:52 am

My husband and myself are planning to go to a Sandals this October and have decided on one of the Jamaica resorts. We are leaning toward Mobay or Royal Carribean.. ..3rd level room lower room.

Does anyone have any pros or cons about either? We are in our mid 30's. We are looking for a fun, active time but not a 'party, party, party' sort of place.

Three years ago we went to LaToc (now the St Lucia Golf Spa & Resort) for our honeymoon and had an absolutly wonderful time. It had just the right mix of activity and quiet for us.

Has anyone been to St Lucia Golf Spa and also either MoBay and/or Royal Carribean. I would like some opinions as to which one is more similar to St Lucia G&S. I am sure neither will be as nice, but which one has closer feel?

Since I might be pregnant, we feel we are limited to MoBay or Royal, since we want to avoid the rough ride, and want to be close to the airport in case there are problems and I have to get back to the states quickly.

Thanks in advance

Hi Gail,

I just returned from Sandals Montego Bay a couple weeks ago. This was my second time at the resort. I haven't stayed at any of the other sandals resorts, however I have visited Sandals Royal and Sandals Negril for a day trip. Here are my thoughts:

Sandals Royal is very laidback. It is a small, lovely resort, however the beach is VERY small. If you are a beach person, you would not be happy here. The guests that stay here tend to enjoy dressing up more at night. They do have nightly shows, however the resort on the whole really quiets down at nighttime. If you are looking for romantic nights to spend with your husband, this might be just what you are looking for.

Sandals Mobay is more of an active resort. It has a large, gorgeous beach, and there are lots of activities going on during both the day and night. Depending on which room you stay in, this can be bothersome if you do not want to hear all the festivities at night. There are definitely places where you can be alone with your husband though, so you can have both partying and romance.

The staff at both the resorts are amazing, and the food is just wonderful. So, no matter which resort you choose, I'm sure you'll be happy.

If you have any questions, just ask away and I'll do my best to answer them for you.

At SMB, I find it a little quieter towards the SeaGrapes Area. The only loudness is the piano bar late at night. I've only stayed at SMB and visited SR. You're only about 10 min. from the airport. Most of the time, guests don't let the planes annoy them. The people are great.

I have stayed at SRC and SMB many times and I agree with the other posts here about the resorts.

One other thing that I think makes SMB a nicer resort than SRC is the fact that all of the resort stretches along the beach and water. The restaurants and bars and a lot of the rooms are right at the beach or ocean. While at SRC the resort goes back from the ocean.

However, no matter which one you choose, you can visit the other and use all of the facilities. Sandals runs a free shuttle between the two resorts. This shuttle runs many times during the day and into the late evening hours. No matter which one you choose, be sure to visit the other and use the facilities and have dinner.

In my opinion, both are great resorts.

Thanks everyone for the advise. My husband and I decided to go to Sandals Royal Bahamian instead. For only a few dollars more, we can leave the resort and see the Bahamas.

Thanks again, :D
