Hi. We are extending our tour 1 extra day in Paris (from Saturday to Sunday) in early October. Does anyone have a suggestion for a HOTEL in central Paris? We are a couple.

Ideally.. .. .
- under or around $100 USD (about 120 euros) per night
- near central Paris
- in a safe and quiet neighborhood
- close to the metro and transportation
- with air conditioning
- double sized bed
- with private bath

Does such a place exist? Your suggestions and experiences are appreciated. Thanks in advance and Happy Traveling!

I can't help you much but will make a couple of comments.

Last year, I thought about doing the trip on our own rather than going on a tour. I had trouble finding hotels in the price range that you are talking about. The ones I was checking were significantly more.

I think you have the euro/dollar comparison turned around unless the dollar has gotten a lot stronger since we went last year.

100 euros is equivalent to $120 dollars. So anything you are paying for in Euros is really costing you about 20% more the number.

You might check the Rick Steves books. Although I'm not sure that the ones he recommends have all of your requirements.

If you are just extending your stay one day, maybe it would be worth the extra cost just to stay in the same hotel as you were in on your tour. It certainly would be simpler than trying to move for one night.

I hadn't thought about your hotel not being centrally located. The one we stayed in for our Globus tour was within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower and very close to the Metro line. We took the Metro all over.

If you don't stay in the same hotel as your tour. I know of two hotels in the near the center of the city both on Av De La Bourdonnais. The hotel Bourdonnaise is more expensive than you are looking for as I remember it was about 150E but a nice place. Hotel Eber Mars is nice enough certainly not as nice as Bourdonnaise but quaint, clean and nice bathrooms. As for a street side, cheaper a bit noiser, but I like the noise of the city. Mars is right in your budget at 100E. These two are next door to one another in a great quiet neighborhood. 50 meters from the Metro, 50 M from the Champ du Mars and Ecole Militaire, at the end of the park that the Eiffel Tour is in so just a block from the Eiffel. Your are only a couple of blocks from Rue Claire, a great local shopping street, and a few blocks from Hotel Invalides. I have stayed a both hotels Bourdonnaise is nicer but for the price I liked the Mars. Same great area. Hope this helps.

We just returned from Paris in June and stayed at the Best Western Paris Louvre Opera. It is brand new (opened 2005) and is good deal for Paris. I think we paid about 120euro per night, but there is not much for cheap in paris. The hotel has only about 25 rooms, but is very close to the subway, and is located just a few blocks behind the Louvre. It is air conditioned and has nice bathrooms. Be aware that the rooms are VERY small.. ..but they are clean and new as well.

I haven't been to paris in 5 years, so I don't know the current prices, but two hotels I would recommend are the Hotel Levecque, located a few blocks from the Eiffel Tower, and the Opera Cadet, near the Opera.

Both were within 2 blocks of a Metro station.

The Levecque was recommended by Rick Steves. It's on a beautiful picturesque street (rue Cler) with flower shops, bakeries and restaurants. Just as you imagine Paris would be. The hotel itself is old, and when we stayed there (I think it was 1994), they were redoing the elevator, so we had to walk up six flights to get to our room. (I presume that the elevator is now functioning.) Our room was very nice, as all the rooms had recently been totally refurbished. We had a new, private bathroom, television, phone, etc. All the mod. conv. The room was smallish, but nice. There was an optional, modestly priced breakfast in the hotel dining room, but we often ate at one of the restaurants on the street.

The Opera Cadet was a modern building. The room was part of an American Airlines package. It was a typical, modern hotel room with bath. It was fine, clean, conveniently located, not particularly memorable. The hotel also had a dining room and a good breakfast (excellent hot chocolate) was provided as part of the package.
