Yes there will be rooms available in Venice in Oct. We were there in November and we had a huge range to choose from. Highly recommend Hotel Flora near St Marks Square - adorable!! We just walked around to a few different hotels unitl we found the right one at the right price.

Dont EVER put off going to Venice!!

Cant really recall any names of restaurants that we went too. All I can say is (and you probably already know this as you've been there before) stay away from cafes/food outlets anywhere near St. Marks Square unless you want to blow your weeks budget on coffee and a sandwich!! We always headed off to the back streets for lunch, dinner, etc and the pricing and quality of food was much better the further out we went. I remember we made the mistake of sitting down inside a cafe in the square once and were presented with a bill for A$28 (US$20)!!!!! And also standing up in cafes is cheaper than sitting down!!

Oh, you lucky thing!!! You've got me staring out the window dreaming of Venice now!!

I just got back from Venice in late May, and there were hotel rooms available. They are expensive, however. My friends and I stayed in hostels. We stayed just outside of venice in the Villa Dori which was very very nice. It has a wonderful bar/restaurant in it where young and old hang out. We are all in our 30's.
